Another Social networking site? But I'm already a member of Friendster and MySpace, why would I bother joining GLAM-OU-RAMA when there's only a few thousand members and those sites have millions of members?

Well if you want a popularity contest stick with those sites, that's not what GLAM-OU-RAMA is about. Indeed we're very happy to be smaller and more select. In a nutshell, GLAM-OU-RAMA is a small friendly website created by and for alternative people, where you can create your own personalised profile and talk with other like minded lovers of everything beautiful on this planet (and sometimes beyond, cos while we're all in the gutter we've got our eyes on the stars).

Early in 2002 we started GLAM-OU-RAMA as a dressed up, glittery, glammed up and debauched club night in Londons' Buffalo Bars. Dressing up like it was still 1973 and playing music from our favourite musician, David Bowie, and the other glam rock stars of the 70's such as T.Rex, Roxy Music, Blondie, etc alongside more recent gliterrati such as Placebo, Marilyn Manson, suede, Interpol, Pulp, etc and our favourite bits of everything in between (like The Cure, Depeche Mode, etc) and soundtracks from films that defined our sound and look (Velvet Goldmine, Hedwig & The Angry Inch, Rocky Horror). The website you see now is very different from the one we launched in May 2002 to inform people of future club nights and the bands we'd have performing. We soon realised that the alternative community needed a home, a place to meet and discuss music, fashions, books, films, makeup and their mental breakup. So first a forum, and then photos, members profiles and all the rest was added. Now we have members from all over the world, some who've been to our club night, others who go to similar clubs around the world and generally just people who follow an alternative lifestyle and want to be part of something that's not run by a mega coroporation like Fox.

GLAM-OU-RAMA, a home for the alternative community. We don't really take sides within genres. We welcome friendly and fun people of all lifestyles, be that bohemian or burlesque, glam or gothic, pin-up or punk, vamp or vixen, whatever your fetish you are welcome here. As long as you have some taste, an open mind, appreciate the joys of makeup and glamour we reckon you will have some fun and make some friends on our site.

GLAM-OU-RAMA means different things to different people. Some people just come here to check what events are going on in London as we try to keep an up-to-date guide to London's more interesting clubs on our event calendar. Others use it much like MySpace, creating a profile, uploading photos and messaging friends. Some people spend their days posting in the forum and reading the reviews our users have posted about their favourite albums, books or films. There's lots of things you can do here, but to most of us it's a community where they can relax and talk with equals away from the maddening crowd.
